9/11 WALL HANGING/WORK IN PROGRESS

by Just A Little Primitive

Hello Friends and Neighbors,
Sorry for being absent from my blog. Of late there has
been so much going on in our country that it has
effect
my
life with deep sadness.
When the Twin Towers were taken down I was on the
telephone talking to a friend and needless to say it has
remained with me.

Over a year ago I started a Punch Needle wall hanging
in memory of this very sad day in our life. It became
very hard to work on it as each and every time it
would send tears of sadness for all those who passed
away for that event.

With all the heart ache that is going on in the United
States of America I have once again taken out this
creation and started working on it once again. Tears
of sadness but I am going to finish it this time for
all those who have lost there life from the Twin
Towers to all our troops and loved ones who have
honored our beautiful country.
Hang with me while I work on the special wall hanging.

. Have A Very Magical Week.
GOD BLESS AMERICA.
LenZie

WHAT FABRICS ARE GOOD FOR PUNCH NEEDLE

This question has been asked of me many times. Even thou I have read a
number of articles it has been very vague as to the names of those fabrics.
And thus I went on the search for myself to see what fabrics I could find and
use as suitable punch needle materials.

Results
1. Weavers Cloth ; very good

2. Muslin Cloth: This fabric comes in different thread count, the high the count the
nicer the results was. But still leaves holes and you can not punch over but one
time, anymore then that it will not accept the thread as nicely

. 3. Broad Cloth: About the same as above.

4. Wool: Coat weight and Suit weight: This was a challenge as the thread count
can very. What you will need to do to use wool fabric, is to us a good tightly woven
fabric iron on Pellon. Draw your design onto the Pellon and Iron it to the backside of the
wool. It is a little difficult to keep the wool tight in a hoop, but works wonderful on a rug
hooking frame. I made several projects using this method and both turned out very nice.

5. Cotton Velvet again the thread count (how many threds and how closely the threads
are woven together) as you can see the CD/bird is on light colored wool. However,
I still had to use the Iron on fabric Pellong. The sewing basket is made of Cotton
Velvet and on a dark back ground and it was also created in the same manner.

6. Corduroy / Cotton nice if the thread count is suitable and the fabric iron on Pellon is
required as well.

7. The best of the best in my humble opinion is 100 percent linen. It is the most user
friendly of all the fabrics I have tried to date. You can use this fabric in a locking
hoop or rug hooking frame.

The above is only a small portion of the fabric I have tried and used.

The bottom line is the size of the punch needle tip, and thread size/ weight / strands you
plan on using will depend of the thread count of the fabric you would choose for
your project. What one might do is purchase or ask for small samples and try the
punch
needle tip and thread on the fabric samples. Each project is different and will
require a little sampling before hand.

Yesterday I finished a design and now getting ready to sew it together. I think
this linen has made a wonderful project.

Punch Needle Embroidery and Rugs

BY Just A Little Primitive

Punch Needle Embroidery, Punch Needle rug hooking and
Rug Hooking has become one of today’s most popular fiber arts.
Both are equally as fun, enjoyable and easy to learn
and it is not costly to get started, the rewards are
worth each stitch or loop you take or pull up. All it
takes for punch needle embroidery is a Cameo Punch Needle set,
a simple design transferred onto a tightly woven fabric,
sized to fit the design and hoop, lip look embroidery hoop and
embroidery floss.

Punch Needle Rug Hooking is the same except you will need
a heavy punch needle designed for rug yarn, a rug hooking
frame, rug yarn and monks cloth, you can use
simple designs or more fancy one's if you desire.
The choice is hour’s to enjoy and a world of fun.

As for Rug Hooking the supplies are some what different as the tool you
use is a special designed rug hook and you use wool strips
cut 1/4 inches wide and about 18 inches long. Rather then
pushing the fiber from the top down you pull the wool
strips up from the reverse side, up through the open weave
of the Monks Cloth. This is a brief description and for
more information check out my blog. For more information I have written

a few Punch Needle articles that you might enjoy reading on my blog at

What is a punch needle?

A punch needle is an instrument made from metal, wood or both, its function are to create a loop using yarn or fabric. The yarn or fabric is feed through and opening, through a shaft and threaded through the eye opening at the tip of metal needle.

The frist photo is a small punch needle embroidery piece made with pearl cotton DMC embroidery floss, using a tool designed for light weight threads, and yarns.

The second photo below, of a floor rug that is used and was made using rug yarn, hooked using a traditional rug hook. This beautiful method is known as Nantucket rug hooking. History tells us that this style was know in the New England states in the late 1700's.

You can make just as lovely rugs using a punch needle designed for making rugs.

Both items are available in our PUNCH NEEDLE SECTION.
